Product information "Long Staff Hanbo"

The Long Staff Hanbo with 92 cm length was developed from a traditional weapon of farmers. With this cane made frm robust, unpeeled Rattan you can practice Asian styles but also several European martial arts.

The Long Staff Hanbo is vaguely half as long as a Bo and can be used with one or with two hands. Japanese farmers defended themselves with it against sword strikes. It resembles a walking cane or a long umbrella. Therefore, many techniques can be applied to these everyday items easily. The techniques are practiced in partner training or in specific forms, often called katas, that combine several movements. Long Staffs are well known in many, very different martial arts.

Especially famous is the Hanbo for its role in Japanese styles like Aikido, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu or Ninjutsu, the fighting art of the ninjas. Furthermore, these Long Staffs also be used for training European martial arts like like the Franch Canne de Combat htat is close to Savate. Or in the English fighting style of the gentlemen – Bartitsu – where walking canes and umbrellas are used for self-defense. Last but not least they’re perfect for the Irish style of stick fighting called Shillelagh.
